Who knew that the home of the famous salad dressing was so close to my new haunts?!
So, this past weekend, Thanksgiving weekend, I met four friends in Ottawa (Heather N., Tanya, Rob, and Bruce), and we had the time of our lives hanging out, canoeing, and camping. Here's a brief log of our activities:
Friday: Bruce and I travelled from Toronto to Ottawa with our friend Peter and his mom. Watched Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy at Peter's place and then went to Heather N's place for night.
Saturday: All five of us left Ottawa in Heather's little VW Golf. Rented canoes at Gananoque, near where the St. Lawrence enters Lake Ontario. Paddled NE for about three hours, against wind and crashing waves. Finally made it to Mulcaster Island. Ate lunch, explored, pitched our tents. We met a really nice Irish family with four young daughters. They gave us three fish, which we gutted, cooked on the campfire along with some tin foil dinners, and ate for supper. Heather N. did an awesome job of planning and preparing food, by the way! What with all the good food and fish we didn't even get around to making orange cakes in the fire!
Sunday: Got up around 7am, packed up, and made the return trip in an hour. Ate an awesome brunch at the Captain's Table. Went back to Heather's place in Ottawa, hung out and prepared for the following day's Thanksgiving dinner.
Monday: Took Bruce to the Via Rail station in the early am, went back to bed. Prepared and ate a yummy Thanksgiving dinner. Took Rob & Tanya to the Greyhound Station. Then it was up to myself and Heather N. to relax, watch TV, and study. I came home Tuesday morning by Via Rail.
